Events not to be missed during June in Matosinhos

The month of June is traditionally one of the liveliest months in the Porto and Matosinhos region, not only for marking the beginning of summer but also because of the famous São João. This year we won’t have the lively popular street parties yet, but Matosinhos doesn’t lack cultural events to fill this gap. There are cultural activities for all tastes. Here are our suggestions for events not to be missed in June in Matosinhos:

From June 2nd – Museu da Matéria Viva

The Museu da Matéria Viva presents an exhibition and workshops focused on living beings, seeking to encourage citizens and designers to build new practices and relationships for the future. You can visit this exhibition at Casa do Design, in Matosinhos.

5th June at 7pm – Luísa Tender Concert

On June 5th, you can watch Luísa Tender’s concert as part of the Piano Cycle – Classical Music Season 2021. The concert will take place at the Studio of the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, in Real Vinícola, Matosinhos. Entrance is free and everyone must respect protection measures defined by the DGS, such as social distancing and the mandatory use of masks.

From June 12th – Exhibition BODY, ABSTRACTION AND LANGUAGE IN PORTUGUESE ART

From the 12th, you can visit an art exhibition that brings together the works of the State Contemporary Art Collection (CACE) on deposit at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. By visiting this exhibition, you will have a unique perspective on the art produced in Portugal between the 1960s and 1980s. The initiative is part of a program of exhibitions and presentation of works from the Serralves Collection. To visit at the Municipal Gallery of Matosinhos.

June 20th – Festival Entre Cidades- A Minha Cidade na tua Cidade

The Entre Cidades Festival aims to bring together three northern cities – Matosinhos, Peso da Régua and Braga – through music, poetry, performance, dance and theatre. The schedule is divided by cities into three weekends, between May and July. On the 20th of June, it is Matosinhos’ turn to receive the artists from Régua. All shows will take place outdoors. In Matosinhos, for example, the chosen locations were Jardim do Monumento ao Senhor do Padrão, Quinta de Santiago Museum, the Churchyard of Matosinhos and the Real Vinícola.
