Minimalistic or rustic decor, which one to choose?

The interior of your home is an important space. In addition to spending a lot of time at home, this must be the space where we feel most comfortable. It is in our home that we create memories that we cherish and where we take refuge when the day went less well. Therefore, the decoration of your home is extremely important.

Two of the most common decorating styles today are the minimalist and rustic styles, which are extremely different.

While the minimalist style is based on functionality and simplicity, the rustic style is based on the traditional country houses and uses traditional elements, such as wood for decoration.

The minimalist style is defined by simplicity, detaching itself from everything that is accessory. No extravagant finish is characteristic of this style. Functionality and simplicity are the watchwords and as such, the decorative elements are almost nonexistent.

The basic and neutral tones stand out, such as the different variations of white, beige and grey.

As the main characteristics of the rustic style, we highlight the wooden finishes, the natural details and the use of materials such as straw and earthy fabrics. The rustic represents the natural, so the imperfections of the wood are often valued, becoming visible and giving the house a more rural feel.

The main colours and tones are the different variations of browns, greens and reds, which create a warm and cosy environment around you.

The walls tend to have the most natural finishes possible, such as stone and brick, resulting in a charming and relaxed decor. An alternative is to use dirty white or earth tones.

When it comes to furniture, those made of natural raw materials are preferable, which will automatically give a not only more natural but also relaxing look to the house.

Finally, rugs with more neutral tones, such as white or beige, will be more suitable for this style of decoration, to contrast with the strong brown of the wood.

While the rustic style brings colours, nature and a cosy atmosphere inside the house, the minimalist style brings functionality and cleanliness, considering that less is more. Which style would suit you best?
